2010 Exhibitions
Friday 27 August 2010 – Sunday 12 September 2010
"Five Visions"
Blue Mountains artists Brian Hanlon, Bruce Cameron, Warwick Baird, Les Love and Ross Chambers come together with a new mix of works.
BRUCE CAMERON- is inspired by living in the Blue Mountains. Bruce has painted for many years and has held a number of successful exhibitions. Bruce has authored a number of books on the Blue Mountains. Painting mainly landscapes Bruce also paints abstractions of the wild and this exhibition has produced a stone sculpture. Living and bushwalking in the mountains provides a constant inspiration and enlightenment for Bruce. Painting both in the outdoors and in his studio in Sun Valley Bruce has created a selection of works that both typify and capture the landsc
ape of the local environment.
ROSS CHAMBERS - works with alternative photographic processes.
He is showing a group of cyanotype prints. This process was invented in 1842 and for many years was widely used for blueprints by builders and engineers.
In the late twentieth entry an English chemist and photographer reformulated and improved the sensitizer, which is coated onto archival rag paper and exposed to sunlight. It's an apt technique to show the heritage machinery of Cockatoo Island, where blueprints were the hard copy of its engineering heyday.
LES LOVE - Les is a Sydney-born artist who has li
ved in the Blue Mountains since 1983. He studied painting and printmaking at the National Art School. Les specializes in etching and linocut printmaking, usually of Australian flora and fauna. His prints are in numerous collections both in Australia and overseas. Les has been a professional firefighter with the New South Wales Fire Brigade since 1980, and is currently stationed at Katoomba in the Blue Mountains.
WARWICK BAIRD - HOMAGE TO BLACK MOUNTAIN SERIES - The series in this exhibition further Warwick’s exploration of the unconscious, dreams, and the physical landscape. The paintings reflect an endeavour to find the energy, tension, and beauty that exist at the juncture between inner experience and
the landscape. The surrealist movement, Indigenous art from the Kimberley, with its large shapes, and Colour Field painting influences Warwick’s work. Stimulated by the Colo River, the peaks of the Blue Mountains, and a dream image of a Black Mountain, the works in the series play with large forms, rich hues of high intensity, and layering of paint to draw the viewer in, rewarding sustained viewing. Warwick Baird holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from the National Art School where he majored in painting.
BRIAN HANLON - Brian has been painting since 1982.He held his first joint exhibition in 1997 with fellow artist Bruce Cameron. Brian works primarily in oils, and his paintings reflect the hues of the Australian bush and mountains. He is driven
by a fascination with light and its effect on the landscape. Brian has been influenced by the Australian Impressionists of the Heidelberg School like Charles Conder, Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton as well as a number of modern day artists. Brian has recently been featured in the book "The Streetwise' by Peter Adams and Alan Lloyd.
