Held Exhibitions

"Surroundings: Perspectives on Landscape"
"Surroundings" is an exhibition in which 3 photographers come together to explore their ideas on landscape. From the dreamlike vistas, in the work of Tracy Miles, via the surrealistic visions of Marcus Gale, to the abstract horizons of Kylie Bishop, Surroundings is a compelling vision of the terrain around us.
Tracy Miles, filmmaker/video artist and university lecturer, is developing the theme of memory from her previous Braemar exhibition. In this exhibition, she is drawn to the dreamlike possibilities of landscape – both real and imagined. Tracy is currently undertaking a PhD at U.N.S.W.
Kylie Bishop, B.Fine Arts (Photography), has worked for many years as a professional photographer and is currently exploring the concept of ‘landscape’ through more abstract representations of the traditional landscape photograph. In this exhibition she will portray details of the urban/industrial landscape.
Marcus Gale is an award-winning film and video maker. His works have screened at local and major international festivals. In his first exhibition at the Braemar, Marcus will explore how our natural surroundings can be made to seem ‘unnatural’ or even supernatural by manipulating the source and quality of light.

"PAPA three"
"Michael Niccol's works called "Riddled as the tide", "Breathe" series by Tamarah Niccol and David Stephenson with "Forgotten spaces"."
Michael Niccol's recent series titled "Riddled as the tide" consists of a collection of moody seascapes and 'man in boat' paintings. Michael's reliance on the camera is evident in his treatment of the painted surface. The blurring of his subject matter simulates the captured moment within a photograph. Michael’s ‘man in boat’ painting’s are contemplative works that touch on issues dealing with masculinity, identity and ones inevitable mortality.
Tamarah Niccol’s body of work, entitled "Breathe" depicts the
human figure within water. The images evoke fluidity of movement and most celebrate the viewers’ shared affinity for all things aquatic. Several paintings are darker in tone and imply a more tragic struggle; the subject fights her surrounds for her universal need to...breathe.
David Stephenson Forgotten spaces". A blank reality we inhabit, move through and never consciously acknowledge. Constructed by us, never beautiful, yet engaging for exactly what they are not. Utilitarian and forgotten, stripped of all pretensions we step into them without paying attention.
These are the areas left for others to find, they reveal the unexpected in our natures.
